Guttering
When a gutter has rusted along its length, been patched repeatedly, or was never installed with adequate fall, replacement is the cheaper decision over any reasonable timeframe. It is also the moment to correct capacity problems rather than repeat them.
We replace gutters across Sydney in Colorbond and Zincalume profiles, matched to the house and to the amount of water the roof above actually sheds.
Quad remains the standard residential profile and suits most Sydney houses. Square-line and half-round profiles suit contemporary and period homes respectively. High-front profiles are worth considering on roofs with a large catchment or under heavy leaf load, because they hold more water before overflowing.
Colour is usually matched to the roof or the fascia. Coastal properties benefit from finishes suited to marine environments, since salt shortens the life of standard coatings.
Old gutters hide bad news. Once the run is off, water-damaged fascia and rafter ends are visible for the first time. We photograph anything we find and quote the repair separately rather than fixing new gutter to timber that will not hold it.
